Sobre esta atividade
Created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979), the museum acquired the majority of her works between the years 1938 and 1947, in Europe and in New York, with the advice of friends, artists, and art critics.
The American patroness exhibited her collection for the first time in Europe at the 1948 Venice Biennale. A year later she purchased Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an unfinished palazzo of the 18th century, where she would live for 30 years and where her museum is located today. At an international level, the collection is one of the most important collections of its kind, notable for the quality of its works and for its historic breadth: during the visit you can admire masterpieces of Cubism, Futurism, Metaphysical painting, European abstraction, Surrealism and American Abstract Expressionism by artists such as Picasso, Brancusi, Pollock, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Miró, de Chirico, Dalí, and Calder.
In 2012, the Foundation’s holdings in Venice were enriched by 80 works of Italian, European and American postwar art bequeathed by the American collectors Hannelore B. Schulhof and husband Rudolph B. Schulhof. Artists represented in this donation include some whose works were already represented in Peggy Guggenheim’s collection and others whose work was not (such as Eduardo Chillida, Ellsworth Kelly, Agnes Martin, Jasper Johns and Tony Cragg).
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection also exhibits sculpture outdoors in its gardens and on its terraces, by artists such as Marino Marini, Alexander Calder, Germaine Richier, and Henry Moore.
The visit includes the permanent collection, the Hannelore e Rudolph B. Schulhof Collection and the Nasher Sculpture Garden.

This tour was amazing!
The tour guide was super, we even had other not on our tour following along Olivia The private tour got us into areas others did not get to see. You could get very close to the art to study the works easily.
An excellent tour with a wonderful guide. The tour was a skillful combination of learning about Peggy Guggenheim herself and the modern art movement that she supported and promoted. Our sons of 13 and 15 years old said this was their favorite museum of the trip.
What a fantastic day at the museum!!! We booked a private tour which was absolutely fabulous!!! It was at the end of April, so I have forgotten the young woman's name that was our guide? But she was SUPER!!! Very informative and brought the museum to life for us!!' Would recommend to all!
We enjoyed the visit very much and recommend the visit to others. The tour of the gallery was perfect.
As modern art lovers this tour with Sandy was fabulous. So much information and didn't hesitate to answer all our questions. Booked 10am should have made it 10.30 to miss the initial crowd to get in. Private viewing from Peggy's roof top terrace of Venice and in-depth life time history of this amazing lady and her inspirational collection put together so well. Top tour by far of our Madrid, Barcelona to Venice escape.
