OLD DELHI: FOOD TASTING TOUR ON LUXURY RICKSHAWS WITH AUDIO HEADSETS
3 h
Sobre esta atividade
We start the tour at a time of your convenience (preferably 10 am or 4 pm) and meet at the Digamber Jain Lal Temple, opp. the main entrance of the Red Fort. You will be briefed about the history of Old Delhi and Mughals and its long association with the best food in India. You will also be handed a wireless audio headset with the help of which you can clearly listen to the live commentary given by the guide. Apart from sharing information about food, your guide will also be telling you about the interesting sites and stories of the old city. We will be doing the tour on our luxury rickshaws, as some of the eating places are a little far to walk. Tour involves moderate amount of walking as some eating joints are located inside narrow streets.
We will be sampling the following foods during the tour:
Jalebis: These are Golden-coloured rings of deep-fried maida batter, soaked in sugar syrup. It is amazing to see the cook squeez out the batter from the hole of a muslin cloth-bag with hands moving in circles. Jalebi is referred as the Celebration Sweet of India.
Samosa: An extremely popular snack and considered to be one of India’s great gifts to the world. It is a triangular fried patty stuffed with a savory filling of potatoes, onions, peas, coriander, and lentils.
Chaat/Bhalla/Tikki: Indian dish made of boiled vegetables, raw fruits, soaked lentils, yogurt and loaded with spices. The best chaat can be found at small street vendors lining the streets of Chandni Chowk.
Parantha: A stuffed Indian bread usually made of wheat flower and stuffed with vegetables. Served with pickles or curry.
Masala lemon/masala tea: These are drinks which are loaded with masalas to give them a special aroma & taste and make them good for digestion.
Khurchan/Barfi: Anyone who loves sweets will instantly fall in love with this special dish made with condensed milk.
Poori/Kachori: These are breads made with refined flour and stuffed with lentils and spices, usually served with potato or chick pea curry.
In case you want to sample some non vegetarian food, our last stop will be Karims in the Jama Masjid area. This part of Old Delhi is engulfed in the smell of fresh fish, aromatic kebabs and fried chicken. Vendors sell kebabs and tikkas (made of buffalo meat) wrapped in rumali roti (paper-thin bread). The Mutton Burrahs here are easily the best in the city.
We provide sanitizer, wet wipes, tissues etc during the tour. Do note that there are no fancy restaurants in Old Delhi and the food is generally towards the spicier side.
