Not entirely sure what the guide's name was but he was an older retired gentleman. As at least one other review had a positive experience, I'd strongly recommend checking out the guide before paying for this which was fairly expensive. I had spoken to the guide about not walking as far as we were going with my older mother and told him we'd take taxis whenever possible rather than walking between sites. I had to remind him 3 times as he had his own agenda and was going to follow it no matter what we said. Even when we got to the places, he generally walked 30 meters in front of us rather than with us and always looked surprised we weren't with him, despite what we had told him. He added almost zero value at each stop and really didn't tell us anything beyond what we saw in placards and pamphlets. He also tried to talk us out of a few key sites and we basically ignored him or we wouldn't have seen anything. One of the place he picked (Nijo castle) likely would have been very interesting if half wasn't under construction and the other half closed on the day we went. He left the tour early so we just went on ourselves and actually had a better time without him. Again, strongly recommend you check out the guide as this likely would have been a great tour with someone who actually cared about being a guide.
