One of our main reasons for visiting Barcelona was the art and architecture, particularly of Picasso and Gaudi. We were not disappointed. We began our tour at the Picasso Museum with our personal guide, Gemma. We were so impressed by this young woman. Her depth of knowledge and understanding of the work of Picasso and Gaudi is exceptional. Her in-depth answers to our questions about the history and culture of Catalonia during our walk through the maze of lanes in the Gothic quarter provided a context to and understanding of the Barcelona/Catalonia of today. Our tour concluded at Sagrada Familia. "Breathtaking" and "deeply emotional" are inadequate words to describe the experience. Gemma's knowledge and understanding of Gaudi and those artists who continue work on the cathedral is exceptional. It was a delight to share her sensitivity to the power and emotion the cathedral holds. This was a highlight of our time in Barcelona.
