Stop At: Diri Baba Mausoleum, Qobustan Azerbaijan
he Diri Baba Mausoleum is a mausoleum located in Shamakhy- Maraza region of Azerbaijan. The mausoleum is a wonderful example of Shirvan architectural school. According to the scripts found on the monument, the construction date was 1402 and the architect was “…the son of ustad Haji”. A funeral text on the wall indicates the name- Shirvanshahs – Ibrahim I of Shirvan- ruler of Shirvanshakhs State. There are still many legends about the mausoleum. For a long time, local people believed that a sacred person- called Diribaba had buried here and remained imperishable across the centuries. Local people relate many mystic events to this monument. Therefore, the mausoleum attracts many pilgrims and visitors from its construction date.

Pass By: Juma Mosque, Nariman Narimanov St., Shamakhi Azerbaijan
Juma Mosque of Shamakhi is the largest mosque of Azerbaijan. It is one of the first mosques of Azerbaijan after the Arab occupation of Caucasus. The Arabian writings reflected on the walls of the mosque show the construction year as 744 AD. This makes the mosque the earliest one in whole Caucasus after the Juma Mosque of Derbent, which was completed in 734 AD.
Shamakhi Juma Mosque does not have analogue in Azerbaijan. Ornamental patterns decorates the entire facade of the mosque. The mosque has a rectangular plan. The size of the building is 46 meters length and 28 meters width. There is a large prayer hall which is divided into three separated sections. Moreover, each part of the mosque has its own prayer place and entrance. Therefore, Juma Mosque is also called three-hall mosque. Such kind of design is very similar to the architecture of well-known Great Mosque of Omayyad in Damask which was built in 708 AD.
Stop At: Ismayilli, Ismailli 3100, Azerbaijan
Lahij is a remote village located in Ismayilli district of Azerbaijan, on the slopes of Greater Caucasus, at a height of 1211 meters above sea level. The distance from the capital Baku to the village is about 190 km. The population of the village is around 2,000 residents mainly consisting of the ethnic minority group who speak the Tat language.
Lahij is one of the most ancient one of the oldest continuously habited places in the world. Moreover, the sewage system of the village dates back to 1000 years ago which was an extra-ordinary facility for that time. For example, the big cities of Europe like Paris and London did not have sewage system until the XIII-XIV century AD. The buildings and master plan of the village is very unique. As a result of the frequent earthquakes, local people have developed sophisticated and authentic construction techniques. Traditionally, people used the ground floors of houses as workshops and trade rooms. Houses here are distinctive with their flat roofs. Furthermore, some houses feature balconies that look out onto the street.
